Tom Cruise is expected to earn $20 million in his new blockbuster lead role
In recent Hollywood news, all-star actor Tom Cruise has landed a role on a $100 million Blockbuster film called Oblivion. Oblivian is a sci-fi flick directed by the same man who brought you another recent Blockbuster, Tron: Legacy, Joseph Kosinski.
Oblivian is Kosinski's first produced film. The film is based off of a comic book written by Arvid Nelson, and the screenplay is by William Monahan. Monahan also wrote Blockbuster hits such as Kingdom of Heaven and The Departed.
The hiring of Cruise will make this film an automatic Blockbuster hit. Getting Cruise in the film was no cheap task. Cruise will be expected to bank upwards of $20 million from the film.
In Oblivian, Cruise plays a veteran soldier who is sent to a distant planet to destroy a race of aliens. After Cruise's character meets an unexpected visitor, he questions the purpose of the mission.
Cruise's film specialty is action. The actor is most known for his leads in films such as all four Mission Impossibles, Knight of Day (2010), War of the Worlds (2005), The Last Samurai (2003), Minority Report (2002) and Top Gun (1986).
The release date for Oblivion is still unknown. Cruise just finished the filming for the fourth Mission Impossible - Ghost Protocol, and is currently filming Rock of Ages, a Adam Shankman film about a small-town girl moving to Hollywood during the height of the rock-music scene in the 1980s. Rock of Ages will be released in 2012.
