San Jose, Costa Rica Tourist Attractions and Sights

San Jose and all of Costa Rica is like a paradise that you would think could no longer exist on this capitalistic planet. The Central American country is extremely humble in nature and pure in life. After my experience in San Jose, CR I am even convinced I will one day have a home there which I may take up residency to find peace, post-fame in a humbled life.

Below are tourist attractions and ideas for sight seeing in Costa Rica based off my 2009 experiences.

tourist attractions and fun spots ↓

  • Once you land at the airport, get a map of the town you are staying in. They definitely help!

  • Sabana Parque has a lot of festive things going on during the weekend. It looks to be less of a tourist venue but it's still great. Watch some young soccer talent, ride horse back, walk theh small lake, and even some cable surfing in trees is available.

  • Teatro Nacional is a sight in itself! Beethoven and Calderon de la Barca statues outside of this remarkable architectural design. The theatre's interior boasts marble staircases, gold ceilings, hardwood parquet floors, statues, murals and exquisite paintings. Catch a show if you can!

  • El Museo Nacional De Costa Rica (The National Museum of Costa Rica) was built in 1917. The Cuartel the Bellavista (original name of the building) was the former headquarters of the abolished Costa Rica army. Now it has permanent and temporary expositions of the Costa Rica history and natural resources.

  • El Museo de Arte Costarricense (The Costa Rican Art Museum) was created in 1977 and is located in the Sabana Parque's front. It hosts contemporary art pieces that include pictures and sculptures by the most talented artists in Costa Rica.

  • El Pueblo, I believe the name is... is the area for people loooking to enjoy the night life. All the clubs are here according to my Costa Rican friend, eventhough I never went. If you're looking to have fun, meet some locals, and move the feet a bit, this is definitely for you. Latin Music, Hip-Hop Music, Reggae Music, Pop Music, and more!

  • The Rainforests and Mountains — I was kind of upset I did not get to go cable line surfing or on a cable cart while in Costa Rica. THat was one of the things I had most wanted to do as it looks super fun! Canopny top cable lines will zip you across a forest or jungle for something you and your company can talk about a long time. Get your courage togethor and go try this! Trust, this is one of the best things to do.

Beyond that, the rainforest, mountain volcanoes, and rivers are all great tours to engage in! They are on my list of things to do when back in Costa Rica and I can relax from this music career. Hot water springs at the top of a mountain which you ride through beauitful wildlife scenes to get to.... do not miss it if you can help it!

  • Malls and Shopping are definitely on the far east end of Downtown San Jose. Once you get into the San Pedro area you will see malls that are totally modernized and as Americanized as you can get. Some upscale stores inside and lots of activity for youth around.
