Whole Foods Founder Doubts Plant-Based Meats Are Healthy
Trying to eat healthy in 2019 is pretty much the equivalent of becoming a monk. Every time you trust a company in America, the truth comes out later. You’re eating something that’s going to give you 3 diseases, a heart attack, and bad gas. While this statement is a joke, how far off from the truth is it really? Just today, Whole Foods founder admitted plant based foods like ‘Beyond Meat’ are too processed and unhealthy.
“Some of these [plant-based meats] that are extremely popular now that are taking the world by storm, if you look at the ingredients, they are super, highly processed foods,” said John Mackey, founder of whole foods on the new trend.
He continued, “I don’t think eating highly processed foods is healthy. I think people thrive on eating whole foods [edibles in their original form].”
Plant-Based Foods from Beyond Meat
Indeed a bold statement. Mackey’s Whole Foods store sells lots of products that have been mixed, blended, and mushed together. This is ‘processed food.’ A banana pudding is not the same as a banana. A beef patti isn’t the same as a piece of cut, whole beef.
Mackey continued , “As for health, I will not endorse that, and that is about as big of criticism that I will do in public.”
Two of the biggest brands that sell plant-based products, got their launch in the Whole Foods store chain. Beyond Meat became a popular grocery item after the health store allowed them to sell their Vegan chicken strips on its shelves. Even samples were handed out in-store.
Since then Beyond Meat has launched it’s “Beyond Burgers” plant-based meat patties. These are heavily popular. Even major food chains like Carl’s Jrs, Dunkin, Del Taco, and TGI Fridays carry their product on menus.
Plant-based Meats Vs Regular Meats
The shocker however, Dieticians have studied the burgers and have come to the conclusion that these plant-based ‘meat’ patties are no healthier than actual meat itself (see on: CNBC). When thinking you’re beating some unhealthy habits with Beyond Meat’s chicken, you may just be getting the same dose of things as a Popeyes chicken sandwich.
The ingredients of Beyond Meat’s plant-based meats products usually includes the same amount of sodium (salts) and saturated fats as regular beef. The company claims it has benefits of no soy, no gluten, and no GMO produce.
