Rapper Eminem has hit the top of the charts once again. The Detroit rapper’s new Hip Hop song “not afraid” became the 16th song to debut at the top in the tally’s 52 year history.
An amazing debut for Eminem, lead single “Not Afraid” sold 379,000 copies last week according to Nielsen Soundscan. The sales total is the fourth highest since download tracking began in 2003. Rapper Flo Rida holds the number one position, selling 636,000 singles downloads of “right round” last year.
It’s expected Usher’s new single “OMG” featuring Will.I.Am will duke it out with Eminem for next week’s top chart position. As Usher’s song gets more radio play and promotion, it will possibly dethrone Em’s single “Not Afraid” if sales fall.
Impressively, Atlanta rapper B.O.B. who bombed onto the Hip Hop and Pop music scene this summer with “Nothing On You,” still holds the #3 position. Charting number one on iTunes for over 8 countries, the rapper’s single featuring Bruno mars has had amazing success and sparked much activity on Youtube. Various “Nothing on You” videos have received over 1 million plays just for their cover.
Coming right behind himself, B.O.B’s new single “Airplanes,” which features Eminem and Hayley Williams, is at number 5. The rising single made B.O.B. the first artist since Beyonce to chart two top 5 songs.
Other charting suprises include new rapper “Ty Mcfly” who’s entered the download charts of TuneCore.com. In 9 weeks the young artist has risen from #994 to #20 on the download charts, behind mostly Sam Adams. New rap single “I Want This World” by C.KhID continues rising on the charts from the viral youtube music video.
