Irmo High School Varsity Boys Win South Carolina State 4A Basketball Title
Irmo High School’s Varsity Basketball Team defeated Ridge View High tonight. A highly anticipated game, the two teams competed for South Carolina High School basketball’s highest honors. The outcome, Irmo High School Varsity basketball team won South Carolina state’s 4A basketball chamipionship.
“We tweeted the game updates all night. Even if you were not in South Carolina, if you had twitter, Irmo High School was keeping everyone aware we are winning the state championship in 4A basketball,” said one former Irmo High School student about the game.
The ingredients to winning the 4A championship were simple, everyone has to contribute. All five Irmo High School starters scored the opening quarter, helping the team gain an 11 point lead leaving the first quarter. The closest Ridge View came to the Irmo High School Yellow Jackets was 7 points in a 4th quarter run.
Jordan Roper scored 24 points to lead the Irmo High School Yellow Jackets to victory. The state title win gave Irmo it’s first 4A basketball championship in 16 years. The school has not seen a state title game since losing in 1996. Two years previous, 1994 and 1995, the Yellow Jackets won the state titles.
According to “TheState.com” Ridge View High School played Irmo High School twice before in the regular season. In both games, the Yellow Jackets won by 19 points, leaving most sports enthusiasts to believe Irmo would win the title.
