Barack Obama Reveals His Favourite Kendrick Lamar Song
Former president Barack Obama is a lover of art and he appreciates it with equal measure. Every end year, he reveals which songs, movies, and books impressed him most throughout the year.
Now that 2024 is almost coming to an end, he has already done the needful and one of the artists that made it to his end-year list is none other than the Compton native.
Okay, Kendrick Lamar was a big name in the hip hop world this year, so it comes with no surprise that he made it to the president’s list.
What was unclear though, was which of his tracks would be named by the president. If left to guess, many would have suggested his celebrated diss “Not Like Us,” or maybe “tv-off.”
But it seems the president’s taste is totally unique and different from that of many of us – he went for ‘Squabble Up.’
Other Songs In the President List
In the president’s list were also ‘Lunch’ by Billie Elish, ‘Yayo’ by Rema, ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’ by Beyonce, ‘Active’ by Asake and Travis Scott among other tracks.
The list titled “Favourite Music of 2024” was accompanied with the following caption;
“Here are my favorite songs from this year! Check them out if you’re looking to shake up your playlist – and let me know if there’s a song or artist I should make sure to listen to.”
Obama, who commands a massive following on X (formerly twitter) also revealed his favourite books and movies of the year.
‘All We Imagine As Light,’ and ‘The Piano Lesson’ were among his favourite movies of 2024 while in the bookshelf he had the likes of ‘The Anxious Generation’ by Jonathan Haidt and ‘The Work of Art’ by Addam Moss.
“Not Like Us”
If there is one hip hop song that disturbed the airwaves in 2024 it’s Lamar’s holy diss to Drake, ‘Not Like Us.’
Released in May at the height of the highly publicized rivalry between Drake and Lamar, this song changed the magnitude of the beef and raised it to a whole new level.
It garnered millions of views and streams over a short period of time and became everyone’s favorite.
Drake even filed lawsuits claiming Spotify collaborated with Lamar and his production company to spike the numbers using bots.
Spotify has since responded to the allegations terming them as baseless and lacks evidence.
