Billboard names Kendrick Lamar as Pop Star of the year 2024

Kendrick Lamar has officially been named by Billboard as number 1 Pop Star of the year 2024.

The publication usually selects their top ten best overall yearly. This year, Drake, Beyonce, and Tyler Swift were among the entrants but Dot swept the top spot.

At number two was Quakertown native Sabrina Carpenter while Taylor Swift was named position three.

“Kendrick Lamar’s 2024 was about many things, but first and foremost, it was all about him letting people know just what he’s capable of. It was essentially the thesis statement behind the biggest song of his year, with a sentiment that also ended up offering the title to the centerpiece event of his year,” Billboard‘s Andrew Unterbeger said of the ‘Not Like Us’ hitmaker.

“And throughout 2024, the often low-profile rapper did indeed keep popping out, emerging with new releases or revelations that captured headlines and captivated the culture. By year’s end, the people had unquestionably been shown, in ways they would never forget,” he added.

Kendrick And Drake Beef

Known for his complex songwriting skills and technical artistry, Kendrick has without a doubt dominated the music charts this year, thanks to his beef with Drake.

From ‘Not Like Us’ to ‘Euphoria’, Kendrick might have just had one of the best years of his career. His songs gained massive public attention and kept people glued to the beef between the two song masters.

The beef between the two artists is believed to be about who is better than who. They are arguably two of the greatest of this generation so whoever is better than the other becomes the greatest rapper at the moment.

Drake is known to be commercially dominant while Lamar is known for the nature of his Lyrics. Each of them, even after the recent drama, still believe they are the best.

Drake Awarded Top Rap Artist

Earlier this month, Billboard had another choice for their 2024 Billboard Music Awards and Drake scooped this one over his rival Kendrick Lamar.

Drizzy dominated the category which apart from Kendrick, had other top artists like Travis Scott, Future, and Metro Boomin.

Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us’ however won top rap song of the year.

The fracus between the two artists is likely to continue in the new year as Drake just recently filed a petition blaming Spotify of artificially inflating Kendrick’s streams for the song ‘Not Like Us’.

Lamar has not issued an official statement in response to the allegations while spotify has strongly refuted the claims.
