On Tuesday, January 21, Chris Brown filed a lawsuit against Warner Bros. and the production company Ample LLC.

Following its “Chris Brown: A History of Violence” Investigation Discovery docuseries, the Virginia celebrity sued the production companies for an outstanding $500 million.

According to Brown, the show’s content was careless and included “sensationalized” and “debunked claims” regarding his criminal history.

The artist is suing Warner Bros. and Ample for “publishing” and “promoting” false statements about him and his private life.

The documentary series’ creators were criticized by Chris Brown’s legal team for what they saw to be partial truths.

The legal team pointed out that Brown is described as a “serial rapist and sexual abuser” in Chris Brown: A History of Violence, even though he has never been found guilty of any sex-related crime.

They also mentioned the Jane Doe at the series’ central figure, who, according to Chris Brown’s legal team, has been discredited on multiple occasions.

Chris Brown brought up the fact that Doe’s lawsuit was later dropped, yet her presentation in the series was designed to persuade viewers to believe her allegations of assault.

He claims in the $500 million lawsuit that the evidence presented in the documentary series was fabricated and seeing the docuseries caused him distress.

According to Variety, the lawsuit said that the case is simply about the media putting their profits over the truth.

It added that Ample LLC and Warner Brothers were notified that they were promoting false information in their pursuit of likes, clicks, downloads, and dollars to the detriment of Chris Brown.

What we know from the documentary series and lawsuit

The docuseries “Chris Brown: A History of Violence” was released in October 2024, showing the life of the singer and his past.

The documentary also narrates the story of the singer with ex-girlfriend Rihanna and the incidents that allegedly took place between both of them in 2009.

It also includes statements from a few women who were allegedly sexually and physically assaulted by the singer.

Chris Brown in his lawsuit talks about how he has never been found guilty of any sex-related crime or assault.

He talks about how the Jane Doe in the series has been thoroughly discredited in court and is a documented perpetrator of domestic violence with a history involving physical assault and threats of violence against her romantic partner.

He adds that he has “grown from those experiences, and his evolution speaks for itself.”

He also accepts his past faults, which he “publicly acknowledged and addressed in his 2017 documentary, Chris Brown: Welcome To My Life.

The “Under the Influencer” singer promises to give some of the $500 million he is requesting, to victims of sexual abuse if granted.

Ample and Warner Bros are yet to respond to the suit.
