Some hours ago, Rolling Stone published a list of the best albums of the 21st century. The list, dubbed ‘The 250 Greatest Albums of the 21st Century So Far,’ has caused an uproar in the music world.

The publication then picked ten Rap LPs (Long Plays) that they believe top the charts for the 21st century. This is actually where there’s a lot of grumbling.

Sitting on top of this list is Outkast’s 2000 classic, Stankonia, followed by Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d. city. Let’s run through the entire list startIng from number ten.

10. The Marshall Mathers LP — Eminem

9. To Pimp A Butterfly — Kendrick Lamar

8. Madvillainy — MF DOOM & Madlib

7. Tha Carter III — Lil Wayne

6. Take Care — Drake

5. Under Construction — Missy Elliott

4. The Blueprint — JAY-Z

3. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy — Ye

2. good kid, m.A.A.d. city — Kendrick Lamar

1. Stankonia — OutKast

Outkast’s Stankonia not only ranked no. 1 on this list. It also ranked top five on Rolling Stone’s best albums of the 21st century.

Dropping in 2000, this iconic album delivered classics like “Ms. Jackson,” “So Fresh, So Clean,” and “B.O.B – Bombs Over Baghdad.” It’s a creative project that continues to influence the genre to this day.

Music Community Reacts

This list is easily agreeable and pretty solid. But it is far-fetched to make a perfect list of the best hip-hop albums of the 21st century.

Fans and critics alike had a lot to say concerning this list. They have taken to social media to share their excuses, disagreements and condemnation.

Recently released top lists of the year, like Drake’s biggest rapper of the century from Billboard fueled these opinions.

Amid this debate, we wonder if some of the best albums of 2024 will become century-defining with time.

Fans believe that there are some albums that are missing from Rolling Stone’s list. They have pointed to albums like Future’s DS2. Kanye’s earlier 2000s output and Nicki Minaj’s dominant run have not been overlooked either.

But it isn’t surprising. These lists are made for the sole purpose of debates from fans and even haters.

The most anticipated award night in music culture is fast approaching. With the Grammy Awards on the way, discussions about which rap albums were snubbed are everywhere.
