Retired Floyd Mayweather May Get Back In the Ring With Rival Pacquiao
Floyd Mayweather, renowned former boxer and current boxing promoter, was recently featured in the news again after having his $1.7 mil Bugatti sold to rap superstar Lil Uzi Vert. Whether the two celebrities are friends or not is a question that is difficult to answer, as this is the only public dealing that the two have had between them, and it wasn’t even between the two of them personally. The rapper actually went through car broker RD Whittington, and even spent an additional $20K on having the sexy car rush-delivered from LA to NYC, where the rapper’s 25th birthday party was being held.
This isn’t the first time the powerhouse sports star has had interactions with the rap world. Back in February, rapper T.I. released a diss track about Mayweather, calling out the rapper for shopping at Gucci, despite the company dealing with public backlash regarding a jumper that was said to prominently feature blackface. The former boxer replied to said allegations that he’s “not no follower,” and would continue to do “what the f*** I wanna do.” Whether or not the boxer was aware of the public outcry against the designer brand is unclear, but what is clear is that the rap community at the time wasn’t too happy with how he was interacting with social activism.
For longtime fans of the boxer, news today came out that Mayweather’s advisor was in talks with the people of Manny Pacquiao, and there seems to have been discussions regarding the pair getting together for a rematch. Mayweather hasn’t been in the ring professionally since soundly defeating boisterous Irishman Conor McGregor, and it’s obvious to say that many fans would be excited to see the boxer get back in the ring again, especially against Pacquiao, an undeniable rival. Whether this event will happen or not is definitely a mystery, but it’s an undeniably good sign that the possibility is making news – usually rumors of this magnitude that get out are teasing something big to come.
According to Manny Pacquiao’s trainer, the boxer is eager to get back in the ring with Mayweather. After their highly-publicized fight in 2015, which Mayweather won on points, Pacquiao has reportedly been frustrated by Mayweather’s claims that the rival boxer is profiting off of Mayweather’s name. Pacquiao, a well-renowned boxer in his own right, is understandably itching to wipe these claims off the map, and profit solely off his own name. The boxer also claims that he wasn’t at top form during his fight with Mayweather, as he was suffering from a shoulder injury at the time. If this is true, then Mayweather would have been the obvious favorite in a fight between the two powerhouses, and Mayweather himself should want to clear the air and defeat his rival when he’s at his full strength.
If Mayweather and Pacquiao do decide to get back in the ring with one another, it will be a boxing event we haven’t seen the likes of in quite some time, and is bound to generate ridiculous amounts of revenue for the both of them. Hopefully, it’ll also decide once and for all who the best boxer in history really is.
