Sales At Tesla Dropped for the First Time in 2024
According to the Verge, sales at the business decreased for the first time ever last year.
Tesla manufactured just under 1.8 million vehicles in 2024, a 4% decrease from the previous year.
Additionally, the brand supplied a comparable but somewhat larger quantity of cars— still a 1% decrease from 2023.
While those outcomes may not be positive, they also might not be all that shocking to the business.
Tesla Navigates Shifting Landscape
Early in 2024, as the Verge highlighted, Musk warned Tesla’s performance will be harmed by greater competition in the electric-vehicle businesses and decreased demand for Tesla automobiles.
Drivers have generally not embraced EVs, preferring to purchase hybrid cars or continue driving gas-powered cars.
Still, despite these developments, Tesla did have a solid end to the year.
The company stated that it had a record number of shipments and installations in the fourth quarter of 2024:
More than 495,000 cars were delivered, and 11 gigawatt hours of energy storage were implemented. More than 459,000 automobiles were also made.
Even though there are still a lot of unanswered uncertainties as 2025 begins, it’s encouraging going into the new year.
Perhaps the most urgent is how Tesla will be impacted by Donald Trump’s election to the White House.
According to the Verge, despite Musk and Trump’s good relations, the incoming president plans to reverse laws that have reduced the cost of electric vehicles in the US.
For instance, the $7,500 tax rebate that many individuals get when they purchase a new electric vehicle may be gone.
China’s EV Market: A New Challenge for Tesla
According to the Verge, China has long been Tesla’s biggest and most significant market outside of its native United States.
But BYD, a domestic EV manufacturer, and other newcomers to the market are making progress in that area.
Both Tesla and other American vehicle manufacturers that presently sell their cars in China suffer from this in the new year.
Musk, however, is sure that Tesla can successfully negotiate the rough seas, with new products in its inventory likely attracting customers.
This year, the company plans to release a less expensive model, and in 2026, a completely autonomous Cybercab is planned.
All Tesla can do is wait and see if the results are better in 2025.
