Tesla Offering Cybertruck Discount Due to Low Demand
The Tesla Cybertruck is a battery-electric vehicle (BEV) manufactured by Tesla and was unveiled as a concept car in 2019.
It has a body similar to a low polygon and is composed of stainless steel sheet panels and was supposed to be produced by Tesla in late 2021.
Due to numerous delays, the production started in November 2023 and was delivered to consumers for the first time later that same month
In 2019, the CEO of Tesla Inc., Elon Musk, stated that the Cybertruck starting price would be $39,900 and the electric vehicle would be ready in late 2021.
The date eventually got moved to 2022 and then to late 2023 with a starting price of $60,990.
Despite the wait times brought on due to demand for the truck, he claimed that the sales seemed to be sturdy for most of 2024
He added that despite wait times brought on by pent-up demand, sales seemed to be robust through most of 2024.
Less than a year later, Tesla is reportedly responding to diminishing sales as the truck’s initial hype has eased by shaving thousands of dollars off the electric pickup’s list price.
The Cybertruck starts at $82,235, according to Tesla’s website, including shipping, with the upgraded Cyberbeast starting at $102,235.
Industry experts estimate that Tesla sold about 39,000 Cybertrucks in 2024, which is a respectable amount for an EV but falls well short of Tesla’s goals.
The rising rivalry
According to Cox Automotive, the Cybertruck was the sixth best-selling EV in the US in 2024, surpassing the Ford Lightning F-150 in sales.
However, the expansion of Cybertruck was hampered by its high cost, frequent recalls, and Austin production difficulties.
“I think the Cybertruck can be officially considered a flop now,” Karl Brauer, an analyst at iSeeCars, told Automotive News. “Remember, this was going to be Tesla’s F-150.”
Even though the demand for EVs worldwide reached all-time highs in 2024, Tesla’s total deliveries decreased somewhat from the previous year.
Due to customers now having a variety of options and alternatives, the market share possessed by Tesla has been reduced
This intensified competition gives alternatives from well-known brands like Hyundai and Chevy to more recent ones like Rivian and Lucid.
Allowing those specifically looking for an electric truck many options, including the Rivian R1T, the GMC Hummer and Sierra EVs, and the Chevy Silverado EV.
