A new joint venture between three leading tech companies to pump billions of dollars into artificial intelligence infrastructure in the U.S. was launched by President Donald Trump on Tuesday.

These three leading tech companies, OpenAI, Oracle, and Softbank revealed their plans to establish a new business named Stargate, to expand artificial intelligence infrastructure in the U.S.

According to the groups, Stargate intends to invest $100 billion in Big Tech infrastructure projects, with the amount potentially increasing to $500 billion over the following four years.

Although it was unclear at first how Stargate would raise money, one project participant stated that they planned to recruit more investors.

President Trump stated, “What we want to do is we want to keep it in this country,” “China is a competitor, others are competitors. We want to be in this country, and we’re making it available.”

“I’m gonna help a lot through emergency declarations, because we have an emergency, we have to get this stuff built. So they have to produce a lot of electricity. And we’ll make it possible for them to get this production done easily, at their plants if they want.” He added.

The goal of the AI infrastructure

According to Trump, the project is anticipated to generate 100,000 new employment opportunities in the U.S.

Stargate will construct data centers across the nation as part of “the physical and virtual infrastructure to power the next generation of AI.”

The presidential document by the executive office of the president says that AI in the US will help keep enemies from obtaining and utilizing potent future systems to the detriment of our military and national security.

It adds that it will keep the United States from becoming reliant on the infrastructure of other nations to create and run potent AI tools, allowing the US government to keep using AI to further national security objectives.

Given that AI is poised to impact everything from the economy to military capabilities, OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman has previously urged US officials to assist in that infrastructure buildout.

He stated that it will ensure the United States stays ahead of China in the AI arms race and on Tuesday said that he “believes this will be the most significant project of this era.”

Oracle Chairman, Larry Ellison stated during the briefing that ten data centers for the project were already being built in Texas and that more were in the works.

He adds that work is already underway in Texas on the organization’s first data project, which will span one million square feet.
