Minipay Wins Web3 Award At The Africa Tech Summit

Africa Tech Summit is an annual event held in Nairobi, Kenya, with the sole purpose of connecting African tech founders, corporations, and investors within the continent and around the globe.
The two-day event, which was held this year on the 12th and 13th of February, brought over 2000 industry leaders and a thousand companies together.
The African Tech Summit recognizes accomplishments in two individual categories and eleven sector categories, demonstrating the influence of African IT companies in addressing urgent issues.
This year’s award finalists were selected from over three hundred applications and assessed based on their inventiveness, impact, scalability, and commercial relevance by an impartial panel of judges.
The award finalists were revealed to be a total of fifty-five companies that have had a positive effect on the ICT sector in Africa.
The winner from the finalists was expected to be announced on the last day of the event, 13th February.
The African Tech Summit Award Winner
MiniPay, a crypto-currency wallet launched in September 2023, won the Web3 award at the Africa Tech Summit 2025 for its contributions to financial inclusion.
The Africa Tech Summit posted a congrats message on its social media on Thursday, confirming the win.
The award highlights its role in promoting stablecoin adoption and smooth blockchain-based transactions throughout the continent.
It also emphasizes how emerging economies are becoming more and more in need of quick, affordable, and easy-to-use digital wallets.
The platform, which surpassed one million users over a year ago, was initially built directly into the Opera mini web browser and was launched in Nigeria.
Minipay has now been formally released as an Android standalone app, increasing its usability outside of the Opera Mini browser.
In markets where cash-in and cash-out alternatives are available, the app ensures broader adoption as it caters to consumers who do not have access to the wallet through Opera Mini.
This allows users in more than 60 countries to now easily send, save, exchange, and spend stablecoins while on the go, with the group stating that they are working to shortly unlock even more nations.
To improve usability, the Celo community (the blockchain where Minipay is built) and MiniPay developers are developing additional connectors and features as MiniPay grows.
With its independent debut and widespread industry recognition, MiniPay is establishing itself as a major force in the digital banking revolution in Africa.
