Tesla Recalls Cybertrucks Over Steel Panels

Tesla is recalling some Cybertrucks because parts of the steel trim might fall off while driving.
The problem comes from the glue used to hold the trim in place.
It can weaken over time due to weather, temperature changes, or other environmental factors.
If the glue fails, the trim pieces could come loose and fly off. This is obviously a safety risk for other drivers.
Tesla is fixing the issue by reattaching the trim with a stronger adhesive.
Tesla is recalling about 46,000 Cybertrucks made between November 13, 2023, and February 27, 2024.
The company told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that only about 1% of them have the issue.
However, they’re recalling all of them just to be safe. This is the eighth time Tesla has had to recall the Cybertruck.
By March 14, Tesla had found 151 warranty claims that might be linked to the trim panel issue.
However, the company said it was “not aware of any collisions, fatalities or injuries that are or may be related to the condition.”
The report also said Tesla first learnt about “partial delamination” of the stainless steel panel on January 7.
Tesla said it will update Cybertrucks that are still in the factory. New ones will be built with the fix starting March 21.
Tesla’s recall comes after a rough few months. Its stock has dropped nearly half this year.
This is partly due to backlash against Elon Musk over his role in Trump’s administration spending cuts.
Some owners have sold their cars in protest, while others have vandalised Teslas.
Despite being the biggest EV maker in the U.S. and hitting a $1 trillion valuation, Tesla faces growing competition.
Other Recalls
Since production began in November 2023, the Tesla Cybertruck has faced multiple recalls for safety and performance issues.
While the latest involves stainless steel trim panels falling off, there have been at least seven others for different problems.
One recall affected Cybertrucks built between November 6, 2023, and July 30, 2024.
The issue was a faulty drive inverter that could cause power loss.
Another recall involved the cantrail assembly, a structural part near the roof.
In some 2024 and 2025 models, it wasn’t strong enough. Tesla replaced both defective parts.
A more serious recall was for the accelerator pedal pad in all 2024 Cybertrucks.
It affected vehicles made between November 13, 2023, and April 4, 2024.
The pad could come loose, causing the accelerator to get stuck and increasing accident risk.
Tesla recalled and secured or replaced the affected pedals.
Tesla hasn’t shared full details on all seven recalls, but some likely involved software issues, braking problems, or structural defects.
These recalls show the challenges Tesla has faced with the Cybertruck, despite its popularity.
Owners are advised to stay updated and get repairs if needed.
