Thousands of New Chevy Corvettes Are Sitting Unsold

If you gave up on buying a C8 Corvette because of low supply, high markups, and production delays, there’s good news. Lots of them are now sitting on dealer lots.

With the right discounts, you might even get one for close to what they cost in 2020.

When the C8 Corvette debuted in 2019, it was in such high demand that they were hard to find.

The first C8 Corvettes were so popular that dealers charged way more than the $58,900 starting price.

Some people waited over a year for theirs, while others sold their cars or reservations to make money.

Last week, CorvetteBlogger.com reported that over 5,700 C8 Corvettes were sitting on dealer lots in the U.S.

That number has dropped a bit to around 5,500, but plenty are still available.

The C8 Corvette Stingray starts at $68,300 and comes with 495 hp.

It has a 0-60 time of 2.9 seconds and a 194 mph top speed. It has a standard 8-speed dual-clutch transmission.

But with discounts, some are selling for as low as $63,185, and one was even found for $58,280.

As demand slows, Chevy has been hyping up the 1,064 hp ZR1, which launched last July and set track records. The car starts at $174,995 and has brought fresh excitement to the C8 lineup.

However, attention will soon shift to the new C9 Corvette, which is expected to launch in 2028.

It could be electric, hybrid, or another gas-powered model, depending on where the industry is headed. It might even include Formula 1-inspired tech.

By then, most C8 Corvettes will be gone from dealer lots, but for now, plenty are still available.

The Corvette C8

The C8 Corvette is the eighth-generation Corvette and the first to have a rear mid-engine. It moves away from the front mid-engine layout used since 1963.

Chevrolet announced it in April 2019, with the coupe debuting on July 18, 2019, in Tustin, California.

The convertible was revealed a few months later in October at the Kennedy Space Centre. The event marked the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11.

Production was supposed to start earlier but was delayed by the 2019 GM strike, finally beginning on February 3, 2020.

The first C8 Corvette was the Stingray, powered by a 6.2L mid-engine V8. It came as either a targa top coupe or a retractable hardtop convertible.

The targa top could be body-coloured, transparent, or carbon fibre.

Chevy has updated the C8 Corvette every year since it first went into production in 2020.

The C8 Corvette has won several big awards. This includes the 2020 Motor Trend Car of the Year and the 2020 North American Car of the Year.

It also made the 2020 Car and Driver 10Best list. It was named Edmunds’ Top Rated Sports Car in 2020 and 2021.

Recently, the C8 Stingray and E-Ray were recognised in Car and Driver’s 2025 10Best list.
