Joyner Lucas Challenges Meek Mill To A Rap Battle
Gray Maurice, who goes by the stage name Joyner Lucas, has sparked excitement in the hip-hop community by challenging Meek Mill to compete in a face-off in the Ultimate Rap League (URL) battle arena.
Making his first tweet this year on the social media platform X, the East Coast rapper posted, “Sometimes I low key be feelin like I wanna get in the URL battle rap ring.”
Notable battle rap figures quickly weighed in on the tweet, which gained momentum as Queens legend DNA hinted at a possible comeback to the stage by replying, “I’ll return for this.”
The URL welcomed Lucas’s enthusiasm, offering an open invitation and asking who he would like to face, to which he replied URL, saying, “Pick someone and let’s get this s–t rockin.”
Heavyweight recommendations from fans, such as Tay Roc, Geechi Gotti, and Murda Mook, flooded the discussion.
The idea of facing seasoned veterans didn’t dissuade Lucas at first, but he eventually changed his mind.
He suggested easing the format with a single round “Let me do just one round at first so I can get my feet wet,” he wrote.
Although Lucas acknowledged his respect for the likes of Arsonal, Daylyt, and Hitman Holla, he made it clear that he would have wanted a more evenly matched opponent for his debut.
In a startling turn of events, though, he called out Meek Mill. Nobody is off the table, @urltv. He tweeted, “What’s up with @MeekMill?”
Url Reaction to the Call out
URL gave an exclusive statement to AllHipHop, confirming that the leagues are willing to make it happen.
In the statement, they said, “For the last year, hip-hop is buzzing with excitement… that competitive edge is back in the mainstream… With that said, commercial artists have long turned to URL as the go-to platform for settling lyrical rivalries or proving their skills.
“If Joyner Lucas wants to challenge Meek Mill, we have the platform to make it happen,” the league added in their statement.
The idea of Joyner Lucas taking the URL stage has already generated excitement on social media as fans anxiously await Meek Mill’s response to determine if the rap battle is going to happen.
It is anticipated that tickets for this possible event will sell out rapidly because so many battle rap fans are speculating about possible matches and results.
