Beyoncé Wins First Grammy Album Of The Year Award

Beyoncé finally received the Grammys’ elusive top honor: Album of the Year, for her eighth album “Cowboy Carter.”
The Grammys’ most-awarded and most-nominated artist has qualified for the category four times previously. She is now the first Black woman to win the top prize in the twenty-first century.
This comes after 26 years since Lauryn Hill’s “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” won this category and Whitney Houston and Natalie Cole prior, making Beyoncé the fourth Black woman to win the Grammy for album of the year.
Her eighth album, “Cowboy Carter,” which contextualizes and honors the black heritage of country music, is the reason for the long overdue recognition.
Beyoncé received the trophy from members of the Los Angeles Fire Department, one of several instances in which the show referenced the recent wildfires that destroyed thousands of homes.
Queen Bee also took home the Grammy award for Best Country Album, to her very obvious surprise.
Beyoncé’s Reaction to her Album of the Year win
At the 67th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, Beyoncé won best album, resolving what many considered to be a historic wrong.
Wearing a gold paisley dress, Beyoncé walked to the stage to accept the trophy after hugging her husband Jay-Z and daughter Blue Ivy as her name was read.
“I just feel very full and very honored. It’s been many, many years,” she stated. “I want to dedicate this to Ms. Martell,” she added, referencing Linda Martell, the performer who became the first Black woman to play the Grand Ole Opry.
About the long-overdue accomplishment of one of the transcendent artists in music, host Trevor Noah remarked, “We finally saw it happen, everyone.”
After being a part of Destiny’s Child R&B group, Bee became the most-awarded artist in Grammy history with 35 trophies.
She is also the most nominated artist in Recording Academy history, having received 99 Grammy nominations over her career.
Even with 35 trophies, she failed to perfect her win the main award, “Album of the Year,” until this Sunday night. Ultimately, the Texas-born musician had to change genres to win.
The second installment of a trilogy of albums that explore American musical traditions and reveal the frequently overlooked contributions made by black musicians, Cowboy Carter focuses on country and Americana.
