Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the Nigerian singer, who recently received his second Grammy nomination for Best African Music Performance, officially began his year with the release of “Why Love.”

Produced by Magicsticks and accompanied by a music video, the song has Asake singing to his muse while combining English and Yoruba in his signature style.

In the incredibly beautiful music video, model and influencer India Love Westbrooks portrays Asake’s romantic interest.

With the two wearing nearly identical camouflage clothing and moving in unison to further emphasize the message, the video vividly embodies the words.

The Nigerian artist, who is well-known for his catchy energy and rhythmic voice, sets the tone for the year ahead by fusing his distinctive sound with atmospheric Afrobeats.

“‘Why Love?’ is the perfect anthem for anyone navigating love, a situationship, or just enjoying life. You don’t need to be in love to embrace the experience; just live in the moment.” Asake says in reflection of the song.

Being Asake’s debut song following his departure from his previous label, YBNL, and the establishment of his independent label, GIRAN REPUBLIC, “Why Love” also signifies the start of a new chapter in his career.

The song gives fans a sneak peek at the Afrobeats superstar’s thrilling year ahead with its growing catalog of singles, including Lonely at the Top and Amapiano.

Asake’s New Label and Clothing Line

With the formal launch of his record label, “Giran Republic,” Nigerian music artist Asake has officially left YBNL Nation and begun a new chapter in his career.

His first 2025 single, “Why Love,” which made its premiere under the new label, was released concurrently with the announcement.

Asake, whose real name is Ahmed Ololade, rose to fame in the Nigerian music scene very fast after first being well-known under Olamide’s YBNL label.

He has had an incredible journey from dancer to chart-topping artist, and with Giran Republic, he is transitioning into an executive position while keeping his artistry.

In addition to his music and record label, Asake further establishes his fashion influence by introducing his soon-to-be unisex apparel line, GIRAN.

His unique musical and visual approach never fails to enthrall audiences across the world.

Pieces from his upcoming unisex apparel line, GIRAN, are used in the music video for the new tune, which is all clean aesthetics and flirtatious poses.

By fusing music and style, the musician keeps expanding his influence outside of the Afrobeats scene and into the fashion business.
