Meet Kidi, Ghanaian Artist Behind Popular Hit “Touch It”

Dennis Nana Dwamena is a singer and songwriter from Ghana. He creates music in afrobeats and high-life styles and is popularly known as Kidi, his stage name.

KiDi has received endorsements from major artists, including Tiwa Savage, Ms. Banks, Oxlade, and Sarkodie. His latest release ‘Lomo Lomo’ highlights his successful collaboration with Black Sherif.

In a statement about the song, the artist said, “Lomo Lomo means ‘curse or spell’ in ga, a dialect in Ghana. In this song, it speaks to a romantic relationship that feels spellbound almost. In this dynamic, I feel completely under her spell.”

“Blacko jumping on this for our first record together was a very enjoyable process, and I can’t wait to see everyone take this and express themselves with it,” he added.

Already a star in his genre, KiDi came to prominence in 2021 with the release of ’Touch It’. ‘Touch It’ is one of the tracks in Kidi’s Golden Boy album released in 2021.

The album has 14 songs, including Cyclone, Dangerous, and Touch It, which is the most popular.

Dancers on Instagram and TikTok created a dance challenge with the song, which goes “Shut up and bend over.”

The dance challenge went viral with hundreds of thousands of reels on Instagram. Videos featuring Malaika Arora, Farah Khan, and other social media influencers can be seen online.

KiDi’s Background

KiDi was born to parents Gerald and Beatrice Thompson in Accra, Ghana, on August 18, 1993.

KiDi went to St. Anthony’s School and Accra Academy for his early education. He then attended the University of Ghana, graduating in 2016 with a degree in economics.

The artist stated that he began singing when he was 12. He would sing in church and throughout his school life.

In university, KiDi performed at the “Morning Cafe” platform, which gives upcoming artists a chance to showcase their talents.

KiDi grew up in Accra, listening to Ghanaian legends like Daddy Lumumba and Katherine. He also listens to American artists like Bruno Mars, who is one of his favorites.

“When you hear Bruno’s songs, you want to get up and move. You don’t just sit down and listen to it. You want to move your body,” the artist said.

KiDi’s album, The Golden Boy, earned him three awards at the 2021 3Music Awards, including Artist of the Year and Song of the Year.

KiDi was signed to Lynx Entertainment and wrote and produced “Say You Love Me,” which became a hit in Ghana.

He’s been rising to fame since 2017 with songs like “Odo,” “Adiepena,” and collaborations with top artists including Davido and Mayorkun.
