Producer Elkan From Sierra Leon Is Behind Drake’s ‘Nokia’

Two days ago, Drake reposted a video from a producer named Elkan’s Instagram account on his burner account, “plottttwistttttt.”

This video showed the producer creating the beat for “Nokia” in a studio in Freetown, Sierra Leone, with a timestamp on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.

The single, “NOKIA,” is one of Drizzy’s biggest hits from his PARTYNEXTDOOR collaboration album $ome $exy $ongs 4 U.

The posted video gave fans the chance to have an inside look at the creation of one of the most notable songs from $ome $exy $ongs 4 U.

In an Instagram post on the 14th of February, the same day $some $exy $ongs 4 U was released, the U.K.-based producer revealed that he was going through a difficult moment when he created the beat.

“I don’t even know where to start,” he started the caption of his post, adding that “Nokia” came from the people he loves ringing his line, asking if he was okay and inviting him out.

Producer Elkan is known to have worked with several big-name artists aside Drizzy, such as Metro Boomin, Tony Lanez, and Young Thug.

While every song on the album debuted on the Billboard Hot 100, “Nokia” and “Gimme a Hug,” the two solo-billed Drake’s songs debuted at number 10 and number 6, respectively.

This recent achievement is a milestone for Drake, as it gives him a total of 80 Billboard Hot 100 top 10s, which is the most in history.

$ome $exy $ongs 4 U also made its Billboard 200 debut at number one, giving Drake his 14th number one and PARTYNEXTDOOR his first.

This and many more achievements prove that Drake is still very much a household name in the industry.

Other Achievements for the Joint Album

The joint album of Drake and PartyNextDoor (PND), which debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 albums chart, has seen a lot of first-week sales.

It sold 246K album-equivalent units in its first week and saw the largest streaming week for any album this year with 287.04 million streams.

Drake, who is on his “Anita Max Win Tour,” which began ten days before the release of $ome $exy $ongs 4 U, is expected to perform “Nokia” live in one of the events.

Producer Elkan deserves praise for this amazing beat as well as for demonstrating the amazing effort that went into creating it.
