Stefano Boeri Architetti is a Milan-based design studio founded in 1993 by the titular Stefano Boeri. Since its founding, the studio has mainly been based in architecture and urbanism projects, but also incorporated elements of interior and cultural design. Always on the cutting edge of the modern world, the studio has designed architectural projects all over the world, for a wide range of socioeconomic classes. In their latest design effort, they have unveiled a “smart city” which will be located in Cancun, Mexico. If successful, the city could be home to some of the best all inclusive resorts in Cancun for families.

City Design Elements

Mexico’s first smart city, this project will incorporate a number of innovative elements. Designed for 130,000 inhabitants, the city will make use of green technology in order to be completely self-sufficient, in all ways imaginable. That includes energy, which will be renewably sourced through solar panels and hydroelectric methods. The city will also produce its own food, which will be supplied by a ring of agricultural fields placed around the edge of the city. All of this has been designed painstakingly, down to the number of plants necessary to make the chemical composition of the city possible.

Botanist Laura Gatti has chosen the various 7,500,000 plants that will be needed to make the city possible. The roughly 400 species range from the obvious, like a variety of trees and oxygen-producing shrubbery, to the less likely agricultural fields. While the crops and botany details have yet to be entirely released, city planners report that there will be 2.6 trees per resident. The quality of oxygen will be high enough to ensure that any tourists staying here will have air quality matching the best all inclusive resorts in Cancun for families. In addition, a slew of green roofs, gardens, and other botanical projects will ensure a balance between nature and buildings.

Research Center For Sustainability Issues

Designers want to attract new researchers and developers to their smart city, so the city center will be built around doing so. Utilizing an advanced public transportation system, city designers have an aim to attract young students and sustainability experts from all over the world. However, these arrivals will be required to leave their cars at home, as transportation, (like the city’s food and energy) will be entirely self-sustaining.

Research conducted in this smart city will revolve around sustainability and renewable energy projects. In addition to this, city planners have expressed a desire to develop more designs for smart forest cities around the world. These cities will likely utilize many of the design elements inherent in this original one. These obviously include renewable energy, but will also likely include maritime water refinement and desalination, the processes for which are essential to this city’s success.

For tourists and visitors to Mexico, this smart city could provide the best all inclusive resorts in Cancun for families. The different sustainability efforts and unique city design are sure to make the visiting experience a unique one. Until the city is fully constructed, it’ll be hard to say for sure what the experience will be like. However, it most definitely be interesting. And with Amazon’s rain forest burning, more cities like this will be needed in the near future.

Watch the video below about this project. It is in Spanish however, but visuals are sprinkled throughout.
