Stephen Curry, the legendary point guard for the Golden State Warriors, has a lot of stories to tell inked on his skin. In fact, you could know a lot about him just by knowing what some of his tattoos mean. But the most recent addition among Stephen Curry tattoos, however, is a tribute to his three children.
Ayesha Curry shared an Instagram post showing a picture of her forearm and Stephen’s leg with matching designs. The Stephen Curry tattoos which are stacked vertically show an image of a wolf, a butterfly, and a unicorn. Specifically, the post stated:
“He luhhhhh matching my swag (***these are our babies signs we have for them). Each has a deeper meaning and representation to us. Canon will always be our young wolf. Ryan our butterfly (this one makes me cry with joy just thinking about it) and Riley our horse (free spirited, which we turned into a unicorn because she’s our magical first born). Thank you again to @winterstone !!!”
Tattoos as a Way of Life
The man she thanks at the end is actually one of Hollywood’s most popular tattoo artists. David Winter (AKA Winter Stone) is known for inking some of the most famous pop culture artists. These include Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, Joe Jonas, Demi Lovato and Sophie Turner.
But Winter struggled as an artist until he took up tattooing and became known for his minimalistic, line-based style of drawing. Notably, Winter used the “Low-Poly” style for the Stephen Curry tattoos. This method involves reducing a form to straight, connected lines, leaving an attractive and simple result.
Stars soon began to pick up on Winter’s delicate line-drawings and wanted to get their own. Particularly, the most famous of his designs belongs to Lady Gaga who has a rose inked along her back along with the words “vie en rose”. This is one of Gaga’s songs and alludes to how personal each tattoo is to every client.
In an interview, Winter commented on what his artwork means to him and the people he draws for:
“I wouldn’t call tattoos trendy anymore, it’s a way of life now. I believe our society is changing and people want to be different and express themselves artistically through body art.”
Additionally, among Curry’s other tattoos is a Hebrew phrase that translates to “love never fails,” and his jersey number 30. Notably, he also has the letter ‘A’ on his finger which stands for Ayesha when he has to remove his wedding ring during games.
The new Stephen Curry tattoos prove that the designs are more than just for style points. Likewise, the designs carry deep meaning for the all-star basketball player on and off the court.
