Pablo Escobar’s Private Jet Now Available For Airbnb

One of the most recognizable representations of Pablo Escobar’s money and influence was his private jets.

The notorious Colombian drug lord was known for his flashy lifestyle, encompassing fleets of private jets like the Boeing 727-100.

The ancient bizliner was discovered at an aircraft graveyard by a local businessman, Johnny Palmer.

He believed it might have a second life as a theme hotel or be a suitable location for a photo shoot.

Johnny Palmer purchased the decommissioned aircraft in 2012, stripped it of its wings and engines, and hauled it to his Bristol industrial park.

Before the Airbnb idea became a thought, Palmer purchased the Boeing as a fun family toy “for having sleepovers with the kids.”

“There are loads of commercial aircraft restoration projects, but this is the only business jet in the world,” he says. “Everything was there, and we did a proper restoration job, so it looks like it never left the ‘80s.”

The Boeing features walnut paneling, a gold-plated shower and toilet, and original leather chairs.

According to Palmer, four people can spend the night on board, as two can sleep on the twin beds and two can sleep in the stateroom at the back.

He installed lights, plumbing, contemporary TVs, and a kitchen with a refrigerator, turning the jet into a theme hotel.

He also installed illumination in the cockpit, which still has its original equipment and seating and appears to be preparing to flee a DEA raid.

A 1958 Lockheed Constellation Starliner at JFK Airport is now a bar, while a converted commercial 727 in Alaska is now an Airbnb.

But none have the glamour or charm of staying on a former drug lord’s private jet, which costs roughly $320 a night during the week and $625 on the weekends.

Palmer admits that the Escobar connection might be the subject of some urban mythology.

Tourists are still fascinated by the mystery, despite several claims that the plane belonged to the Mafia and Arab aristocracy.

“I appreciate that it makes people happy, that many people have wonderful evenings there, and that it inspires children,” he says.

Palmer also rents out the space for free to local artists looking to film music videos and in addition to the existing aircraft, Palmer plans to install another repaired 727-100, or even two, which also lack wings and engines.
